About
David Winter is an artist exploring the intersection of artificial intelligence and visual art. His A.I.-generated works offer a new approach to image-making, using only verbal prompts to guide the machinery of the generator. Rather than altering the results, Winter presents them as they are, allowing viewers to find their own meaning in the images.
Previously a sculptor, Winter brings a strong understanding of form and materiality to his digital practice. His work has been exhibited in solo shows at Malinda Wyatt Gallery and Barbara Toll Fine Arts in New York City, as well as in group exhibitions at institutions such as Luhring, Augustine & Hodes Gallery, the Whitney Museum at Philip Morris, and P.S.1 in Long Island City. He has also received honors including the American Academy in Rome Fellowship.
Since transitioning to the medium of A.I. in 2022, Winter has continued to build on his background in traditional art while embracing new creative tools. His work reflects an ongoing commitment to evolve the relationship between technology and artistic expression.
